My new kitchen toy

I finally got a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for Christmas – YAY!  I’ve been putting off really asking for one because I had the excuse of not having room in my kitchen but finally this year, I broke down and asked Tommy for one for Christmas.  I figured that I could just make room.  I felt that I needed one or my life wouldn’t be complete.  And after many discussions with my good friends Nikki and Clara over which one to get (Nikki made it quite clear that the most important question was “what color do I want?”- ha).  So after making my decision, my wonderful husband bought me exactly what I wanted – the Artisan, 5 qt in…Gloss Cinnamon!  It matches my kitchen so perfectly.  I want to just pet it and look at it.  I’m in love with it.  Best. Gift. Ever.

My Fab New (Old) Bowls

I am such a sentimental person in case you haven’t figured that out by now.  Not so long ago I needed a really good mixing bowl since I’ve started baking more.  My mom gave me one that she had – it wasn’t anything special really, but since she gave it to me, it instantly became special.  Last week, I opened the cabinet where my bowls are kept and out rolled that bowl onto the floor and it crashed into about 40 pieces.  I wanted to cry.  When Tommy came home I told him and he felt so bad for me so he told me to buy some new mixing bowls.  I wasn’t that into shopping for “new” mixing bowls.  I wanted that one.  I looked at Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens N Things, WalMart, etc., but I wasn’t into anything.  I decided to look on ebay, so I typed in “mixing bowls” and on the first page came up a Pyrex bowl that was the Spring Blossom pattern.  I instantly knew that I HAD to find a full set of these bowls and buy them immediately!  You see, these were the bowls that my mom had when I was little.  I remember these bowls vividly – no matter where we went, these bowls went.  Since we moved so much, I’m not sure what happened to her set, but I knew I wanted these bowls so everytime that I used them to bake and cook, I would be reminded of growing up.

I found several sets of these bowls and they were somewhat pricey, but not too bad for vintage Pyrex.  I told Tommy those were the bowls that I wanted so he did a quick search and found a really cheap set on Ebay for me!  He bought them for me right away.  I received them this weekend and I couldn’t be happier!  I used them for the first time tonight and I love them!!!  Thank you to my wonderful husband for buying these for me because he knows what a sentamentalist I am.  : )

Without further adieu….!!!

My new stove!

As some of you know, we are going to build a house in the next couple of years.  We are designing it and doing most of the work ourselves so we are still a couple of years away, however we are planning for it already.

One of the things I knew we needed to do before we sell this house is to buy a new stove.  For some reason when Tommy bought this house, all of the appliances matched except for the stove which was almond while everything else was black.  We had no intentions of buying a new stove for awhile but we were at Lowe’s last weekend and saw one that was  a good deal, so we bought it randomly!  I was super excited!  Our old stove did not have a flat cooktop and this one does – YAY!  It is nothing super fancy but I LOVE it!

I received the phone call today that it was in and I was so excited!  Tommy left work early and when I got home it was all set up for me to fix dinner.  🙂   See below my new toy:

How do you organize your recipes?

February 7, 2008 at 1:32 am | Posted in kitchen | 9 Comments

I have so many great recipes from so many different sources.  I have recipes from my mom, recipes from magazines, recipes from people’s blogs, recipes from books, etc.  I always liked the idea of a recipe box when I was younger, but now I’m not so sure.  I mean, do I really want to write/type out every recipe I find on a blog and put it on a card for a recipe box?  I think not.  Who has the kind of time?!

Currently aside from my cookbooks my printed out/torn out recipes are all in a book of sorts.  It’s some sort of heirloom recipe organizer that my mom bought me a year or two ago for Christmas.  It was great at the time and it still does a pretty decent job of organizing, however, I have so many recipes now that they are starting to burst out of their pages in their little folders in the book.

So, how do you organize all of your recipes?  Do you just go look at the blogs when you need one and not print it out? Do you print them out and put them somewhere?  Binders, folders, boxes, etc?  I’m curious.  I think I need a new system….

My Kitchen

I know some of my friends have gotten into posting pictures of their kitchens on their blogs so I figured that I would join in. I have a fairly small kitchen but I like it nonetheless. We have done a ton of work on it – laid hardwood ourselves, Tommy knocked out a wall, we recovered our chairs, painted, etc. It’s pretty homey if I do say so myself. I love it right now because my fall decorations are out and they match my kitchen perfectly : )

Here is one view – our kitchen table. My camera was being weird, but you get the idea. The signs on the wall say “Pinot Noir” and “Bordeaux” – how “me” : )

We recovered our chairs recently with the help of my mom. The chairs look a ton better than they did!

This is where the magic happens….the cooking magic! : ) Nothing fancy, but it serves its purpose. Don’t mind all of the clutter…my kitchen is in desperate need of a good cleaning.

This is the other side of the kitchen – basic sink, dishwasher, etc. I like that it opens up to our living room though. It makes the room seem so much bigger!

My favorite wedding gift and addition to our kitchen – my six bottle Cuisinart wine refrigerator! I love it!

I still have some work to do on it but this is the room where I spend a lot of my time!
